The Final Stretch

Exam season and the year-end push, told through two rollers and the mist that love in the bag with them.

The calendar tightens in October. Exams line up, deadlines move closer together, and the year starts asking for its ending before it has properly turned toward summer.

The evenings get busier before they get warmer. Revision timetables go up on bedroom walls. Diaries fill in faster than anyone planned for.

If you are the one colour-coding a study schedule, or the one still closing off year-end numbers long after everyone else has logged off, this is for you.

Nobody has time for a long ritual right now. What earns its place in a pencil case or a handbag side pocket is small, quick, and settles into the day without asking for much back. That is really the whole story behind the Remedy Roller set: twelve small bottles, each one a different mood for a different hour, pre-diluted in jojoba oil so there is nothing to mix and nowhere to spill it.

Focus and De-Stress Remedy Rollers

This month, two of them earned a closer look.

The Focus Remedy Roller carries Lemongrass, Rosemary and Black Pepper. Bright, herbaceous and a little sharp, the kind of scent you roll onto the wrists before a lecture, an exam hall, or the third hour at the same desk.

The De-Stress Remedy Roller is Cedarwood, Clary Sage and Cypress. Woody, warm and grounding, kept for the other end of the day, once the last page is turned and the desk lamp goes off.

Neither one is the whole toolkit, though. The same set includes Balance, with Lavender, Rose Geranium and Clary Sage, a soft floral note for the days that feel like they are asking too much at once. And Sleep, with Lavender, Bergamot, Sweet Marjoram and Vetiver, an evening scent for winding the day down before the last light goes out. Between the four of them, there is a roller for most of what October brings, and the full set runs wider still. Have a look at soil.co.za for the rest of the range: there is a roller for most moods, not only these four.

How to Use

A diffuser is made for a room you are sitting in for a while: a desk overnight, a lounge in the evening. A roller goes where you go. It does not need power, water or a room to fill, just a wrist and a few seconds.

  • Roll Focus onto the wrists or temples before the desk, the lecture, or the exam hall.
  • Roll De-Stress on again once the day is done, as the desk lamp goes off.
  • Reach for Balance or Sleep on the days that need something softer.
  • Let each one sit a moment before touching anything else, so the scent has a chance to settle.

Facial Mist

There is a Facial Mist to go with all of it too, in Rosemary, Lavender, Rose Blossom or Rose Geranium: an alcohol-free hydrosol that refreshes skin and hair with one spritz. It lives in the same bag as the rollers, for the same reason, small, quick, and ready when needed.

How to Use

  • One spritz to the face, or over the ends of the hair, for a quick refresh between classes or meetings.
  • Keep it in the same pocket as the rollers, for the stretch when a roller alone is not quite enough.
  • Choose the scent by the moment: Rosemary for a lift, Lavender or Rose Blossom or Rose Geranium for something softer.

Grown Closer to Home

SOiL began as a family farm in KwaZulu-Natal, and still grows, distils and bottles much of this range there today. What it sources elsewhere comes from partners held to the same organic and ethical standards. No middlemen between the farm and the bottle, which is part of why the range stays affordable even in the busiest month of the year. Natural wellness, in SOiL’s view, should not be a luxury reserved for the quiet months.

Whatever October is asking of you, keep the ritual small. A roller in the bag. A mist on the desk. Nothing to remember, nothing to set up, just there when you reach for it. The month will still be busy. It does not have to be busy without a small pause built in.
