The ingredient taking the beauty world by storm – and why soil brought it to you
But Batana is not a trend invented by an algorithm. It is an ingredient with centuries of history, and one that SOiL has now brought to you in a form that is as practical as it is special.
Where Batana comes from?
Batana Fruit Oil is extracted from the nuts of the American Oil Palm (Elaeis oleifera), a tree native to the tropical rainforests of Honduras and Nicaragua. For generations, the indigenous Miskito people of Honduras have used this oil as a cornerstone of their beauty rituals, earning it the name they gave it themselves: the miracle oil.
The oil is naturally vibrant in colour, a rich golden yellow that signals its dense nutrient profile. It is rich in naturally occurring fatty acids and has a deeply conditioning texture that absorbs readily into the skin. It is worth knowing upfront: that golden colour is real, and it can transfer. More on that below.
What makes pure Batana unusual is that on its own, it can be difficult to work with. In warm climates, it softens quickly and becomes tricky to apply evenly. This is where the SOiL formulation story begins.
Why SOiL blended it with Shea Butter
SOiL Natural Batana Shea Butter is a COSMOS Natural certified blend of Batana Fruit Oil and Certified Organic Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii). The decision to combine the two was deliberate and considered. By pairing Batana with Shea Butter, SOiL created a smoother, more stable consistency, one that holds its texture, applies evenly, and delivers the conditioning benefits of both botanicals in a single, easy-to-use product.
The result is a deeply conditioning butter that sits beautifully on the skin without the unpredictability of pure Batana on its own. Just two ingredients. Nothing unnecessary.
What it does for your skin & hair this winter
Batana has long been celebrated in traditional beauty rituals for its use on both skin and hair. Rich in naturally occurring fatty acids, it has been traditionally applied to condition and soften hair, improving manageability and leaving strands feeling nourished. For textured, coarse, or curly hair types in particular, the deeply conditioning texture of SOiL Natural Batana Shea Butter makes it a natural addition to your hair care ritual.
Mid-winter skin needs more than surface-level moisture. Cold air holds less humidity, indoor heating draws moisture out of the air, and the result is skin that feels tight, rough, and uncomfortable, particularly on the hands, elbows, heels, and any exposed areas.
SOiL Natural Batana Shea Butter helps maintain moisture and supports the skin’s natural barrier, leaving skin feeling soft and comfortable. Smooth it onto dry areas after a warm shower while your skin is still slightly damp, and allow it to absorb fully before dressing or getting into bed.
A practical note: because of its naturally vibrant golden colour, it is best to allow the butter to absorb completely before contact with white fabrics, towels, or light-coloured bedding. For feet and heels, apply generously before bed, slip on a pair of dark or old socks, and let it work overnight. By morning, the difference is noticeable, and your white sheets stay exactly as they should be.
A small amount goes a long way. Start with less than you think you need, warm it between your palms, and press it gently into the skin rather than rubbing.

How to use them this winter
The simplest way to use any SOiL Shea Butter is immediately after a warm shower or bath, while your skin is still slightly damp. The butter absorbs more easily into warm, open skin and the moisture is sealed in rather than applied on top of dry skin.
For hands, smooth a small amount in before bed and let it absorb while you wind down. For elbows and knees, apply directly to dry patches and massage in circular movements until absorbed. For a full winter ritual, pair with a SOiL essential oil in your diffuser. Lavender, Frankincense, or Cedarwood all work beautifully, and let your home carry the same warmth as your skin care.
